Sr. Irene Silveira - RIP

Our ex Principal, ex Manager at Mahim and also an ex Canossian student SR IRENE SILVEIRA, passed away this evening suddenly. She had gone to reach another Sister to the Belgaum Rlwy Station and there felt giddy.

She was rushed to the hospital where the Doctor declared that she was no more

May her soul RIP.

Today also happens to be the day on which she pronounced her first vows almost 55 years ago. It is also the Feast of the Patron of the Dying-St. Joseph!

Do accompany her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed with your kind prayers!

Her funeral is on Monday the 21st March in the evening.

~Feast Day - 8th May~
St. Madgalene of Canossa (1774~1835) was an Italian nun. She was born to a Veronese Family. Her father died when she was 5 years old and her mother abandoned her in 1781 to marry another man. In 1791, she spent time in a Carmelite cloister but decided this was not her vocation.

In 1808, she began charitable work in Verona and in 1828 set up the Institute of the Daughters of Charity. She was beatified on December 8th, 1941 and was canonized by Pope John Paul II on October 2nd, 1988.

~Feast Day - 8th February~
Saint Josephine Bakhita was a young Sudanese girl sold into slavery where she experienced the humiliations and the sufferings of slavery, physical, mental and moral. She was brought to Italy where, while serving as a nanny, she was sent to live with the Canossian Sisters of the Institute of the Catechumens in Venice. Bakhita, which means “fortunate one,” is the name given her by her kidnappers. There she was baptized, and, having reached majority age, was granted her freedom by Italian law.

In 1896 she joined the Canossian Daughters of Charity where she served humbly for the next twenty five years. She died after a long and painful illness. On May 17, 1992, Josephine Bakhita was beatified by Pope John Paul II. She was proclaimed Saint on October 1, in the Jubilee year 2000.

Since then, St. Josephine Bakhita, our very own Canossian, has been interceding for many, especially those who are sick, those who are in any form of slavery and those who need to find peace, forgiveness and reconciliation in their lives.
